Barely Beige Classic — Now Available

It all began with a simple wish from our customers:

“I wish there were a softly variegated fabric in a very light color.”

Through repeated dyeing and careful experimentation,

this color gradually took shape.

At the end of September last year,

when I attended a workshop with my dyeing mentor,

I shared this request—and together, we created this shade.

I named this color “Barely Beige.”

As the name suggests, it carries the meaning of “just a hint of beige.”

I chose this name so that it would feel like a sister color to our existing “Basic Beige.”

On the final day of the workshop,

as a kind of culmination, my mentor said,

“Let’s try recreating a color you like from these samples.”

The moment I chose this shade from around 500 options—

“Wow, that’s light!!”

he exclaimed, and I couldn’t help but laugh.

When I explained that this color came from customer requests,

and that my fabrics are meant to serve as a base for embroidery—

where soft, pale tones are often preferred—

he understood and agreed.

That day was filled with joy.

Even as I seriously studied dyeing,

there was someone who truly understood everything I asked about—

something I had always faced alone before.

That sense of comfort and happiness stayed with me,

and I remember spending the whole day in cheerful excitement.

After returning home from Hiroshima,

I immediately began dyeing this pale beige on my own.

This time, I created soft, cloud-like variations

and finished it in a classic style.

It has become a very special color to me.

At the same time,

I truly hope that this gentle beige

will softly and tenderly accompany your stitching time—

like something that quietly stays by your side.

The wish for a softly variegated, pale fabric—

I wonder if this piece fulfills that hope.

As spring arrived,

I picked up some cherry blossoms from a local farmers’ market

and photographed them together with the fabric.

I think it would be perfect for spring stitching,

and personally, I would also love to use it

for winter or Christmas designs.

If this piece catches your eye,

I would be so happy if you chose to bring it into your hands.

I always look forward to imagining

what kind of embroidery each piece will carry,

as I send these fabrics out to you.
